Rural Security WorkForce Initiative (S4X) is to enhance safety, resilience, and economic opportunity in rural communities by developing a locally trained security workforce tailored to the unique challenges of remote and agricultural areas.

Pilot Area 1: TD9 – Scottish Borders (Hawick & Surrounding Rural Communities)

🔹 Local Context & Challenges

The TD9 area, encompassing Hawick and surrounding rural communities, faces increasing incidents of theft, particularly targeting:

  • Construction tools
  • Farm equipment
  • Fuel and quad bikes

These crimes often occur in isolated locations with limited surveillance and delayed emergency response times.

🔹 Upcoming Developments

Two major infrastructure and restoration projects are scheduled to begin in the next 12 months, involving:

  • Internal construction phases requiring secure storage and site monitoring.
  • Restoration of heritage Property increasing the need for asset protection and controlled access.

These projects will bring in external contractors and temporary workers, increasing the need for coordinated security and community reassurance.

🔹 Initiative Focus for TD9
